Reminds me of my favorite quote by Henry Ford, "Believe you can, believe you can't. Either way you're right."
But I do know that there's one group that's gotta believe. Your board members!
I've heard it all. We're too poor. We're too small. The big guys can do anything they want with all their money. We tried it and it didn't work. We've always done it this way, so why change?
Some people can't picture success. Do you think they are afraid to believe they can be successful because of the potential for disappointment? Yep, more than they will ever admit it.
Remember the book The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale? How about Fish! by my friend Harry Paul and a couple others. It's a tiny book - read it in an hour or so - and you'll learn how to boost morale and improve results for everybody involved in your work. As Harry's friend Dr. Ken Blanchard said in the forward, "Implement the four secrets and suggested strategies ... and it will motivate people to take pride in what they do." And with pride comes belief.
Remember that US hockey team in 1980 who pulled off the "Miracle on Ice" and beat the Russians? You better understand that they totally believed!
