So I’ll be ladylike and simply say that you need to forget the PC police and employ your
best profiling strategies … on your board. Knowing your board members’ strengths and
weaknesses is essential if you want to build a great team. And that’s profiling … in a
So now you have one set of criteria to apply. Fit each member into one of these
categories and you’ve got half the board engagement battle won.
Next week we’ll look at what you do with the folks in each of these categories. They are
all necessary to make your organization successful. Your frustration with their
apparent lack of engagement may be your efforts to put a square peg in a round hole.
