2. Your bookkeeper, CFO or CPA. Lots of donors have financial questions and are directed to the finance person. The conversations are devoid of personality. Why do numbers crunchers feel they don't have to know anything else about their shop? Can't numbers be handled with a smile in your voice, an occasional joke, or even a personal thought?
3. Your assistant. Maybe your office isn't big enough for you to have a personal assistant, but technology provides ways to help people reach you. It's called a computerized calendar. I understand you are not sitting there waiting for my call, but I don't understand that somebody tells me they have no idea when I can reach you. Bah, humbug. I'll try somebody else.
4. Your delivery people, service providers and other vendors. You think they work for you so you don't need to know anything about them. Just business talk. I'm too busy for small talk. Well, you may have just lost a great donor. Maybe it's the person. But if not, you can bet he has friends and family. And he remembers who's naughty and nice. He will talk about you, and what you do, to others you'll never reach.
Everything is marketing. So don't let the "it's not my job" attitude kill your efforts.
