We all need legal processes to guide our work. But often the documents seem to frustrate our success rather than enhance it. Remember the KISS principle and write as clearly as possible. And keep guidelines and agreements as short as possible.
Are your legal documents filled with "musts" and "can'ts" and "shoulds"? If so, don't be surprised if you are rejected. Leaders who are overwhelmingly controlling, needing pages of policy for everything, find it difficult to build working partnerships.
Review your documents for prospects and donors to see if you would like to do business with your organization. It's never too late for a review and refresh to make these tools more friendly, easier to understand and shorter. You'll certainly find them more successful.
