Numbers are important but they sure aren’t the ultimate decision tool in the world of charitable giving. Keep reminding yourself that ours is a personal interaction. Consider whether your efforts to be sure you are keeping your constituents happy are working for or against you.
Let’s start with the positive assumption that your organization has a prospect list … right?
Now look at the total number of names on that list. Could you call all the names on that list? Do you even have contact information for all of them? Do you know the person that can get you in contact with each of them?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, you don’t have a prospect list.

Here are some hard facts about adult learning from Meridian LMS that might surprise you.
This week we heard Elon Musk say he would fly two people around the moon and back by the end of 2018. And remember in 1961 when President Kennedy said we would land on the moon and return by the end of the decade?
It sounded impossible. But Kennedy did it. And Musk probably will, too.
And then I remembered a favorite quote by Henry Ford. “Whether you think you can or you can’t, either way you’re right.”
An old lady has a new puppy. Puppies are unlimited energy and movement. And the old lady is trying to teach the puppy to behave.
The basic command is sit. The puppy doesn’t exactly get it, so she pushes his bottom to the ground. She talks to him all the time and tries to get him to behave.
One universal stress that everybody feels today is TIME pressure. So, time spent with a prospect is valuable itself. Whether in writing or in person, you are consuming some of their time.
All too often solicitations and communications feature the “problem” that your organization addresses. Yes, that’s why you exist, and if you are communicating with a real prospect … as opposed to a suspect, she probably already knows what you do.
